New Independent Chair Joins Orkney Public Protection Committee

Orkney Public Protection Committee welcomed Ross Drummond as the new Independent Chair in October 2025. Ross penned an open letter to colleagues across Orkney, paying tribute to his predecessor Alex Davidson who leaves a significant legacy not only in Orkney but across Scotland.

Mr. Drummond brings decades of experience in Public Protection, first developing approaches to Child Protection in the early 2000’s whilst working for Police Scotland before moving into Local Authority working as Child Protection Lead Officer for Perth and Kinross.

Mr. Drummond, who is also the Independent Chair of the Western Isles Child Protection and Adult Support and Protection Committees as well as the Chair of the Bairn’s Hoose Pathfinder Implementation group, spoke of his hopes to bring a breadth of experience to the partnership, having worked in both children’s and adult services and welcomed the opportunity for shared learning and development across these island communities.

Expressing his excitement to be joining the Orkney Partnership Mr. Drummond said:

I hope to galvanise our strong partnership working as we further build our own capacity and resilience; whilst developing community confidence.
