The Scottish Government and COSLA have a shared ambition for a trauma-informed workforce across Scotland, which can help support children, young people and adults affected by all forms of trauma by reducing barriers to accessing general services, preventing any further harm and supporting recovery. A key component of that also considers “how well are staff cared for?”. To be trauma informed, aware and proactive requires staff to be wellbeing to be considered.
“In Scotland 7 in 10 people experience trauma in their lifetime, that’s 70% of staff in theory. A trauma informed approach is both self-reflective internally and externally.”
We encourage staff to undertake Trauma Training and make use of the free resources made available by NHS Education for Scotland through the TURAS portal.
