Supporting Older Adults

Across Scotland there are several organisations and services which are dedicated to supporting elderly adults. Here are a few services which may be helpful to know about if you are supporting an older friend or family member.


Age Scotland Orkney

Age Scotland Orkney has been working with and for older people for over 25 years. Previously known as Age Concern Orkney, they now work with sister charity age Scotland to ensure that everyone can love later life.

Age Scotland Orkney aim to:

  • Help and Support older people who live in their own homes, to retain dignity, choice and independence and to enjoy a good quality of life
  • Work with other groups; both statutory and voluntary, national and local, on issues which have an impact, in the longer term, on the lives of all older people

Age Scotland Orkney’s Here2Help service offers clients regular assistance with day to day tasks in their own homes.

Age Scotland Orkney offer a full Footcare Clinic which is led by their fully qualified Foot Health Practitioner.

Age Scotland

Age Scotland are a national sister charity of Age Scotland Orkney, they stand with and support people in Scotland so they can grow older with security, are valued and connected and have a good quality of life.

Age Scotland offer free information and advice on a range of topics important to older people, their families and their carers. This includes information and advice on care, energy and healthy living, legal support in the form of a free Will writing service, and guidance on benefits such as housing benefit. Age Scotland’s free guides and community workshops can help you access the information you need.

Alzheimer Scotland

Alzheimer Scotland is the leading, national dementia charity in Scotland. They provide advice, information and support and are there for people living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers across Scotland.

Carers Scotland

Carers Scotland are there for unpaid carers with expert information, advice and support. They also campaign to make life better for carers.

Orkney Citizens Advice Bureau is independent and impartial; providing free and confidential advice and information on a wide range of subjects. Services are available to anyone who lives or works in Orkney and are delivered by trained staff and volunteers supported by the professional advice, information provision and consultancy services of Citizens Advice Scotland.
